MORGAN WAITOA EAST COAST NGATI BRED
Known for their intelligence, sure-footedness, and mix of Clydesdale/Thoroughbred traits, thriving in rugged terrain, and representing a significant part of Māori equine culture.
These versatile horses are valued for their quiet disposition and adaptability, often used for various activities, and are distinct from the Kaimanawa wild horses, though both stem from early New Zealand horse introductions.
Mixed Heritage: They are a crossbreed, often incorporating Clydesdale and Thoroughbred blood, resulting in strong, versatile animals.
East Coast Connection: Primarily associated with the Ngāti Porou iwi, they are bred for the challenging East Coast hill country.
Temperament: Known for being calm, intelligent, and reliable ("sleepy disposition"), making them good for work and sport.
Versatility: Capable of handling mountains, water, bush, and stony ground.

Kaimanawa Horses while also iconic New Zealand horses, Kaimanawa are wild horses found in the central North Island, whereas Ngāti horses are owned and bred.
